It would depend on the focal lntgeh of the lens, which is directly related to the lateral angle of view of the lens. If you can find the focal lntgeh, you can then use some trigonometry to figure the distance you need to be from the wall. In any case, let's pretend you have a normal lens on your camera, which has a focal lntgeh of 50mm on a 35mm camera. The horizontal field of view would be 40 degrees for this lens. Using that, you would need to be about 146 feet away from the wall. To figure this for any focal lntgeh, you need to find the horizontal field of view of your lens in degrees. Then, take half of this amount, and find the tangent of it(press the tan button on your calculator). Then, divide half the lntgeh of the wall by this number. This will give you how many feet away you need to be.I might also add that these calculations assume that you're perfectly centered in front of the wall, and have the film plane perfectly parallel to the wall. You can get somewhat closer if you tilt the film plane, however this changes the plane of focus and can cause problems with regard to keeping the whole wall in focus. For example, if the film plane is nearly perpendicular to the wall, you can get in the entire lntgeh of the wall in the frame even if you're only a few feet from it. Only a small portion will be in focus, though.
